7 cups water
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup pearl barley
1 bouquet garni
1 large carrot, chopped
1 turnip, chopped
3 leeks, chopped
1/2 small savoy cabbage, shredded
salt and pepper to taste

1. Put the lamb and water in large saucepan, bring to a boil. Skim off foam. Sitr in onion, barley, and bouquet garni.2. Return to a boil. Cover partially and simmer 1 hour.3. Add remaining veggies and seasoning, return to boil. Cover partially and simmer 35 minutes or until veggies are tender.4. Remove fat from top of soup.
