In a large saucepan, cook potatoes in enough boiling water to cover, for 20 minutes or until very tender. Drain.Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan cook carrots and onion in 2 cups water,covered, 15 minutes or until tender.******DO NOT DRAIN******Place half the potatoes in a blender container or food processor bowl. Add half the carrots, onions, and cooking liquid. Blend or process until smooth; transfer to a large saucepan. Repeat with remaining vegetables and cooking liquid. Add to pan. Stir in milk, butter, sugar, and salt; heat through.
