3 Tbsp butter and cornstarch

Boil potatoes and garlic in the water until tender. Put potatoes and garlic through a ricer and add back to the water. Add the onions to the potato water mixture. In a sauce pan melt butter and stir in cornstarch. Add milk and stir till thick. Add to potato mixture.
