This is my own version of shepherd's pie that my husband and children enjoy. It's filling and delicious. It's made with real, whole foods, so isn't low-fat. But could be made lower-fat by substituting low-fat buttermilk for cream and some of the butter, and using leaner ground beef or ground turkey. What Are The Ingredients For Jennifer's Shepherd's Pie Recipe?The ingredients for Jennifer's Shepherd's Pie are: 2 lbs ground beef1 medium onion, diced 4 tbs Heinz organic ketchup 2 tbs Worcestershire sauce (I eyeballed it you may need a bit more) 2 whole carrots (or 8 baby carrots) diced 1/2 cup of frozen peas 2 tbs avocado oil (or cooking oil of choice) 4 russet potatoes 1 stick of butter 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup beef broth boiled and reduced to half How Do I Make Jennifer's Shepherd's Pie?Here is how you make Jennifer's Shepherd's Pie: Makes 12 servingsStart by preheating your oven to 475. Dice your onion and carrots and cook them in the oil on a pan over the stove. When softened add the ground beef and cook through. While beef is cooking peel and boil the baking potatoes. When beef is cooked through add the ketchup, worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and salt to taste. Let the liquid boil down a bit. Turn off the heat and add the frozen peas When the potatoes are soft, mash them with the butter and cream and salt them to taste. Take an 8 by 11 baking dish and spread the beef and veggie mixture across the bottom of the dish. Then spread the potatoes across the top covering all the beef mixture. Put in the oven until the potatoes start to brown. Remove from oven and let the dish rest for 10 minutes or so.
