What Are The Ingredients For Homemade Split Pea Soup with Ham Recipe? The ingredients for Homemade Split Pea Soup with Ham are: One large ham bone with 2 pounds of meat attached (is what I had in my freezer)Fresh water 3 cloves garlic, minced 6 carrots, medium, chopped 6 celery stalks, chopped 1 onion, medium, chopped 3 potatoes, medium, cubed 2 tsp Thyme, dried (or use fresh if you have it!) 2 tsp Black Pepper, ground 2 large bay leaves Salt as needed How Do I Make Homemade Split Pea Soup with Ham?Here is how you make Homemade Split Pea Soup with Ham: In a large soup pot, cover ham bone with water and simmer until meat is tender enough to pull off. Also, you may just cut the ham off the bone and start with it cubed but I like the flavor of the water after the bone has cooked. When the meat is soft, pull the bone out of water, let it cool until you can cut and cube the meat. Add meat back into pot.Add in rest of ingredients except potatoes and add extra water if necessary. Simmer 30 -45 minutes or until peas are getting soft then add in cubed potatoes. If you like your potatoes to break down more, you can add them earlier.Let simmer another 20-30 minutes and adjust seasonings. I wait to add more salt until the end as ham can make it pretty salty.Serving Size: Mine made about 12 - 1 1/2 cup servingsNumber of Servings: 12Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user JODYMARYK.What's The Nutritional Info For Homemade Split Pea Soup with Ham?The nutritional information for Homemade Split Pea Soup with Ham is:
