Preheat oven according to cake mix directions and prepare two muffin tins with cupcake liners. Prepare the yellow cake batter and divide evenly among the 24 cupcake liners. Bake according to cake mix directions - may require a little less time than usual. Remove from oven and cool.While cupcakes are cooling, use a heavy saucepan to combine the pineapple and its juices with the cup of sugar.
