Mix all together in a big pot, except vanilla (it will foam a lot because of the baking soda). Whisk constantly over medium heat. When the mixture comes to a boil, keep whisking for exactly 7 minutes from the time it starts boiling (I cooked it too long the first time I made it and it came out really runny, not thick at all).
