Prepare a pan of ice water that is large enough to hold the saucepan you'll be using. Beat egg white and yolk together. In a small heavy saucepan, combine milk, egg, cornstarch, and Splenda. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 10 minutes. Put pan into ice water, stirring constantly, for 1 or 2 minutes.
