3 bay leaves
1 6 oz pack of fresh mushrooms, quartered
1 C turnips cubbed
1 Tbl ground thyme

Here is how you make Maria's Beef Bourgignon Stew:

In a heavy Dutch oven over medium heat, render bacon until lightly browned and beginning to crisp. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a large bowl and set aside. Add the chopped brisket, chopped onions, carrots, and turnips to the Dutch oven and cook, stirring frequently, until browned around the edges, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer the browned vegetables to another bowl and set aside.
