Here is how you make Tara and John's Basic Buttered Basmati Rice:

Rinse rice in cool water several times to remove excess starch. Soak rice in cool water for 30 minutes. Drain.To a small saucepan with a tight fitting lid add the rice, 1 1/2 cup water and all remaining ingredients. Cover and heat over VERY LOW heat about 20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed. Fluff and let sit about 5 minutes before eating. (Discard cardamom pod and cinnamon stick).
