Boil dal, skim scum. Once de-scummed, add turmeric & ginger, cook 90 minutes on low, stirring more frequently during last 30 min of cooking. Add salt & garam masala & stir. Remove ginger.Heat ghee in frying pan, add cumin seeds, stir, add garlic, cook until garlic is lightly browned.
