The ingredients for Vegan Sloppy Joes are:

1 cup sweet onion, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 cup mushrooms, sliced and chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced or chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
1 10 oz package frozen spinach(the chopped kind)
1 can tomato paste (6oz)
6 tbsp of A1 Steak Sauce (yes, it is vegan!)
1 tbsp dried parsley(or fresh if you like)
a bit of fresh ground pepper if you like
1 package Morning Star Farms Grillers Recipe Crumbles meal starter (1 package yeilds 6 2/3 cup servings)WARNING!!!! These are no longer vegan!!! as a comment down below states. I have not tried the boca ones that are mentioned.

Bob's Red Mill has a TVP that is vegan though. I am adjusting the ingredients to reflect this change. I appologize for the Morning Star Farms switch. how ridiculous that they've changed their recipe...


please feel free to add/change spices as needed. sometimes we put mustard in, or horseradish, etc...


How Do I Make Vegan Sloppy Joes?

Here is how you make Vegan Sloppy Joes:

FIRST: take out spinach and set on counter to thaw (or run tap water over the package for a bit) while preparing the rest of the veggies.SECOND: rehydrate the TVP per package instructions. Heat olive oil over medium heat and sautee the onions first, until soft.Add peppers, sautee until tender.Add the mushrooms and garlic. Sautee for an additional 3-5 minutes until tender and blended well.Add slightly thawed spinach and cover for 3 minutes.Add can of tomato paste, stirring and mixing it in to the veggies. Cover for 2 minutes.Add A1 sauce and dried parsleyAdd rehydrated TVP and stir well. Cover for additional 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.serve with buns of your choice!Yields: approximately 6-8 servings.
