Here is how you make Mom's Biscuits:

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, and sugar into bowl. Cut in shortening/butter until the mix is like coarse crumbs. Mix well. Add milk and stir quickly just until dough follws fork around bowl. (Dough should be soft.)To roll and cut biscuits: Turn onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat dough 1/2 inch thick. Dip cutter in flour: cut dough straight down--no twisting. (You my get fewer biscuits with this method.)To make drop biscuits: Just drop about 2 tablespoons of the batter onto a cookie sheet.Bake on ungreased baking sheet in 450 oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.
