1/4 cup steel cut oats
1/4 cup bulgur
1/2 cup cooked wheat berries *

4 cups chicken or veggie broth
2 onions chopped
4-6 galic cloves minced
1 bell pepper, chopped
1/2 tea dried thyme and rosemary
1/4 tea dried basil

1/8 tea garlic and onion salt , red pepper flakes and white pepper

1 cup frozen peas
3-4 green onion tops
2-4 tbs sunflower seeds


How Do I Make 5 grain pilaf?

Here is how you make 5 grain pilaf:

* Simmer wheat berries 1 hour in broth. About 1/4 cup berries and 1/2 cup broth. Put olive oil in 3 quart pot add chopped onion and pepper. cook until onion is soft. Add minced garlic and cook a few more minutes. Add herbs and spices and stir. Add broth and heat till boiling. Put all grains in sieve and rinse well. Add to broth and heat until boiling. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Add peas and sunflower seeds and simmer 5 more minutes. Add green onion tops, remove from heat and allow to sit covered 5 minutes. Stir well and serve. Add cooked chicken or shrimp for a main dish or veggie broth and tofu for a vegetarian main dish. I don't measure spices or veggies so I guestimated amounts.
