Here is how you make Yellow Pea and Lentil Soup:

sort, measure, rinse, and drain all legumes. set aside.chop and prep all veggies. chop stewed tomatoes removing stems and reserving all liquid (this will become part of the cooking liquid.)over medium heat add oil with onion, bay leaves, and celery. sautee until they begin to soften and brown a little.add rest of vegetables, tomatoes, and legumes and mix well. add several cups of water so everyhthing is covered well. DO NOT SALT WATER or add spices with salt until lentils are cooked (~45 minutes)while soup cooks add water as needed to keep desired consistency. (i usually keep it a little more thin because it will cook down.)cook, covered or uncovered, for about 45 minutes. once lentils have softened you may add all the spices and salt to taste. (i didnt give measurements, i usually start with about 1 tsp and add more as needed)cook covered for about 30 minutes, during this time the yellow peas should soften quite a bit. now that the soup has cooked a while you can check spice level and see if anything needs to be added. once split yellow peas are cooked through you can remove from heat, or you may allow extra cooking for deeper flavor.Serving Size: 1 cup
