chop onions. i usually leave mine large, but chop to size preference.add onions to a small saucepan and heat through until almost clear. if using garlic, add at this stage.add black beans (and juice) and chicken broth.add spices to taste. i usually use black pepper and whatever else is on handsimmer until desired consistancy. i usually simmer for at least 45 minutes because i like them mushy.serve with brown rice.makes 4 servings at 1/3 cup per serving.
