I grew up eating these homemade waffles and wanted to tweak them to make them healthier. I tested them the other day and they were almost as good but with much fewer calories and virtually no fat per serving. Enjoy!

What Are The Ingredients For Apple Waffles Recipe?

The ingredients for Apple Waffles are:

1 cup egg beaters (equiv of 4 eggs)
3 cups flour
2 1/4 cups skim milk
5 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla extract
2 tbsp. Sugar
3 1/2 cups pared & shredded raw apple
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Salt
2/3 C applesauce (subs for the 2/3 cup veg oil)


How Do I Make Apple Waffles?

Here is how you make Apple Waffles:

In a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder,salt, sugar, and cinnamon. Put egg beaters, skim milk, and vanilla into a small mixer bowl and beat on high speed one minute or so. Then add mixture to dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed about 1 1/2 minutes until blended. Scrape bowl, while beating. Add applesauce and whisk only until blended. Then add shredded apples and whisk just until combined. Make sure to preheat waffle iron until it beeps. Then spray with cooking spray to make sure the waffles do not stick. I sprayed before each waffle was cooked and had no problems with sticking. The waffles turned out better than I guessed they would, especially using applesauce instead of oil. It made a total of about 27 individual waffles (6-7 full-size waffle maker portions each made up of 4 waffles). I usually eat about 3 waffles for a meal.
