Wash lentils well. Cook in large pot covered over 1.5 inches with water. When they are close to finished cooking, heat oil in a skillet and add cumin seeds, onion and peppers. Cook until onions are clear. Add tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes have broken down. When lentils are soft, mash them a bit to get the consistency of porridge. Add saute mixture to lentils and stir.
