Here is how you make Bert's Lentil and Brown Rice Soup - 1 cup serving:

put lentils in a pot with 2.5 cups of water and bring to a boil, cook approximately 15 minutes. Chop onions and celery. Take 1 Tbs. light olive oil in a small frying pan, add onions and celery and saute for approximately 10 min. Add cumin, salt and pepper to lentils. Add saute onions and celery to lentils. Simmer about 20 minutes. Add 3/4 cup of Brown Rice (1 bag), and 6 cups of water. Add spinach. Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer another 10 to 15 minutes.
