My mother made this dish every Summer so even though it contains both summer squash and zucchini, we always called it Summer Squash. It is wonderful with noodles. Since you drain the tomato juice from the canned tomatoes, the calorie and sodium content will actually be less(unless you add your own salt to taste)

3 medium summer squash, quartered and sliced(remove seeds if you see them as they are too tough and bitter)
3 medium zucchini quartered and sliced, remove any seeds as above
1 large sweet onion
4 cloves of garlic, smashed, and minced
2 TBL olive oil
About 12 fresh basil leaves(chopped)
About 1-2 TBL fresh oregano, chopped(if using dried use 1/3 of this amount)
1 28 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes, drained and chopped coarsely
black pepper to taste
salt to taste, if desired (I never seem to need it in this)

Heat olive oil in a large saucepan. Add onion and garlic, cook until onion is translucent. Add squashes and cook until they start to get soft(may need to cover for 10 minutes).
