Here is how you make World Famous Ham Chowder:

In a large dutch oven combine first 5 ingredients and salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Do not drain. Meanwhile, in another saucepan melt butter and stir in flour until smooth. Slowly whisk in milk. Cook over med heat until thick, stirring occasionally. Add cheese and stir until cheese melts. Transfer cheese sauce into the vegetable mixture and add the corn and ham. Heat until hot, but not boiling. (Can also let simmer in a crockpot on low for several hours).
