How Do I Make Northern Bean Soup?

Here is how you make Northern Bean Soup:

In a large pot, place the olive oil and saute the onion, bell pepper, and garlic until very tender, about 7 minutes. Mix in tomatoes with juice, cumin and chili powder. Gradually add the beans and chicken broth. Remove 1 cup of the bean mixture and puree in a food processor, blender, or immersion blender until smooth.
