3/4 c. pearl barley

Here is how you make Brad's Beef Barley Lentil Soup:

Heat oil, garlic and about 2/3 of the sliced onion in a skillet. Once garlic and onions start to give off a strong aroma, add the meat and sear on all sides. Keep turning and browning until juices, garlic and onions start to caramelize over medium heat. Add about 1 qt. of water and continue to stir and cook until there is no longer anything stuck to bottom of pan. Transfer to crock pot with remaining ingredients and cook for about 4 hours on high.
