Saute the onion 5-7 minutes until softened. Add the carrots and saute for another 5 minutes until soft and slightly golden.Add the water, split peas, ginger, bay leaf, thyme, tarragon, coriander and cumin. Cover, raise the heat to high, bring to a rolling boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and allow the soup to simmer, covered for 45 to 50 minutes until the split peas turn soft & mushy.Stir in the frozen broccoli and diced roasted red peppers. Cover and raise the heat to a boil again, then lower the heat and simmer for another 20 minutes or so. Remove ginger cube and bay leaf.
