1 bag of green split peas (16 oz or 2 cups)
8 pearl onions peeled and whole
1 med yellow onion sliced into quarters
1 Large stalk of celery sliced thin
1 Large carrot sliced thin
3 sm-med red potatos diced
4 slices of bacon uncooked
1/2 a cup or so of diced ham
2 cups of chicken stock or 2 bullion cubes
1/4 cup of dry lentils
6 cups of water (6, 8oz cups)

Here is how you make TJ's Split pea and ham soup:

First wash, cut, and soak vegetables until ready for use. Rinse legumes and remove any possible stones etc. Dice ham and seperate bacon. You will need a large soup pot or even crock pot. In a large pot bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Add potatos, carrots, celery, onions, and bacon. (You can add olive oil but this is NOT in the nutritional information) Allow to boil for about 10 minutes and reduce to a medium low heat.Add legumes (lentils and peas), and ham, cover and allow ingredients to cook on a medium low heat for 20 minutes checking regularly so it doesn't scorch. As the water cooks off slowly add the remaining.Reduce to a med-low to low heat. Add chicken stock and cook for another 20-30 minutes until soup is thick and all legumes and vegetables are tender.Serve warm.
