How Do I Make Lo-Cal and Lo-Sodium Split Pea Soup?

Here is how you make Lo-Cal and Lo-Sodium Split Pea Soup:

Heat water and split peas to boiling. Boil for 2 minutes than remove from the heat. Cover and let stand for one hour.Stir in ham pieces (cut into 1/2 inch pieces) and bone with any remaining meat on it, onion, salt and pepper. Return to heat and bring to boiling. Reduce heat to simmer and cover for about 1 hour until peas are tender. Skim fat if necessary.Remove ham and trim meat off of bone, be sure to remove as much fat as possible from meat before returning it to the soup. Add carrots, celery and dice raw potatoes in to the soup.
