I got this recipe from a Czech cook book my mother got when we visited the Czech Republic in the summer of '07. It makes a nice creamy potato soup. The salt, marjoram and chives have no messurements and I just sprinkle on what I feel but what I have is a reasonable guess. I use onion powder instead of onion for family reasons. The veggies can be varried as you like them. The recipe just calls for 200g.items in the () are what I put for the nutritional calculations.You can dry your own mushrooms for this by buying some, slicing and then laying on a screen or rack in a warm oven. I've seen things on the internet that say just laying them out with a fan to blow on them lightly works as well. The oven is what works for me and 8 oz of fresh mushrooms will make about 20g of dried...roughly

300g pealed potatos (about 2-3 medium)
200g vegetables *carrots, celeriac, leeks, etc* (green beans, parsnips, celery, carrots)
10g dried mushrooms (10g fresh)
1 sm onion (1 TBS onion powder)
3 TBS oil (canola)
40g medium flour (1/4 c white flour)
700 ml water total (2.95 c water)
salt (1tsp salt)
2-3 cloves garlic finely chopped (2 cloves garlic)
Marjoram (1.5 tsp)
Chives (4 tsp)


How Do I Make Czech Potato Soup?

Here is how you make Czech Potato Soup:

Cut potatos & veggies in small pieces. soak mushrooms in warm water (200g)Heat oil in saucepan. Add onion & flour to create a white roue. Add water gradually (500g). *start very slow and make sure it's completely mixed. If you do this too fast you will end up with a clumpy mess.* Gradually increase the heat & stir until smooth. Add potatoes, veggies & mushrooms (with the water). Season with salt and simmer until soft.Add garlic and marjoram & simmer. Decorate with chives (I put a tsp on my bowl, is good without)Varry the veggies as they seasons change. I typically use carrots, celery and parsnips. I just added green beans this last time and it was great. I'm going to continue to change veggies and see.I put in that it makes 4 serveings but only if you are having something else.
