Here is how you make Southern Rice and Bean Soup:

Saute the onions and garlic in the olive oil over medium heat until the onions are soft.Add 4 cups of water, the beef base, the beans, and the rice (keep aside the spice packet that comes with the rice). Add 1/2 of the spice packet then turn the heat up to medium high. Boil the soup for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low, then simmer, covered, for and additional 10 minutes.Serving Size:?Makes about 1.5 cup servings
