Here is how you make Pepper and tomato soup:

Cook the onions in the olive oil in a large pan for about five minutes, until softened. Add the basil and sugar and stir in, then add the rest of the ingredients. Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally, and simmer for 15 minutes. Turn the heat off and cool for half an hour or so, then blend in a liquidizer until smooth. Return to the pan, and reheat just before serving. Excellent with wholewheat bread, preferably home-made. Can use veggie stock instead of chicken stock to make this suitable for vegetarians.
