In medium saucepan, heat the oil; add the onion and garlic. Add 1/2 t salt, stir, turn on low and cover. Let simmer 5 minutes. Chop the tomatoes (you can remove peel and seeds if desired). Add the tomatoes, stir, cover and simmer 5 minutes. Add the chicken broth, turn heat to high; bring to a boil. Turn the heat down again and let simmer about 10 minutes.
