1 cup Swanson Chicken Broth 99% Fat Free,
1 cup Milk, 1%, 1 cup
1 cup Flour, white
1 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper, black
3 cups water, tap
1 1/2 cups White Rice recipe calls for basmati rice. 9 oz.


How Do I Make Chicken a la King?

Here is how you make Chicken a la King:

Melt the butter inj a large skillet over med-high heat. Pat the chicken dry and season with salt and pepper. Brown on both sides, 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the chicken to a plate and add onions, sauteing for 5 minutes until tender. Add the mushrooms and bell pepper and cook 5 minutes more. In bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, milk, flo9ur, salt and pepper. Turn the pan to medium low and add the milk mixture. Cook the sauce until it thickens, 10-15 minutes, being careful not to break the milk mixture. (see note at bottom of recipe). When the sauce has come to a simmer and thickened, return the chicken to the pan and allow the sauce and chicken to cook 10-15 minutes longer, until the chicken is cooked through. In a separate sauce pan, bring the water to a boil with the rice. Once to a boil, cover and turn the heat to low, allowing the rice to cook 25-30 minutes, until all the water is absorbed.
