6 hot dog duns, split open
2 tablespoons butter at room temperature
1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 cup chopped red onion

2 tablespoons corn oil
1 small onion, chopped
1 small green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1/2 pound ground beef
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 drained canned red kidney beans
2 teaspoons chili powder, or to taste
salt and pepper

Here is how you make Chili Dogs:

For the chili, heat the oil in a skillet. add the onion and green bell pepper and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. add the beef and cook until well browned, stirring frequently and breaking up lumps with side of a wooden spatula. stir in the tomato sauce, beans, chili powder, and salt and pepper to taste. cover the pan and simmer 10 minutes. meanwhile, put the frankfurters in a saucepan and cover with cold water. bring to a boil. remove from the heat, cover and let stand 5 minutes. spread both sides of each hot dog bun with the butter. fry in a hot skillet until golden brown on both sides. to serve, put a frankfurter in each bun. top with chili and sprinkle with cheese and onion. serve immediately.Number of Servings: 6Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user REGINAHERSHMAN.
