Cube meat into 1-inch pieces. In large non-stick skillet, over medium-high heat, brown steak pieces on all sides, sprinkling with salt and pepper. Drain off fat; place meat in 3.5 to 4-quart crock-pot. Brown half the steak and repeat with remaining steak pieces. Steak should be seared just until tannish brown, not cooked through. Add mushrooms, onions, garlic, beef broth, sweet red wine, and five spices. Sprinkle flour over top, 1 tablespoon at a time and stir to blend, preventing lumps from forming. Cover with lid. If using oven, bake for 4 hours at 350 degrees. If using crock-pot, cook on low heat (275 to 320) for 8 to 10 hours or on high heat for 4 hours. I prefer crock-pot, low heat at 8 to 10 hours for most tender outcome. Then 30 minutes before serving, mix butter and flour to form a paste, add to crock-pot, stir in to blend and turn crock-pot to high. Allow to thicken for 30 minutes. Serve over cooked wavy egg noodles or rotini pasta. Serve with salad, sugared and buttered lima beans and fresh bread.
