Dice onions, ham, and shred cheese.Using 3 tbsp butter, spread onto one side of bread, and slice into 1" squares. Use remaining butter to cover the bottom of 9x13 casserole pan. Layer half of the bread, and half of cheese, then remaining bread and cheese. Combine all other ingredients, and pour over top of bread.Cover with a layer of plastic wrap, then gently press down until egg mixture is absorbed by bread.
