Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil, add lentils and cook for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add onions and cook, stirring frequently until lightly browned. Drain lentils, return to saucepan and add the onion, cumin, coriander, giner and salt & pepper to taste. Add rice and 4 cups of water, bring to boil then reduce heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes.
