What Are The Ingredients For Tomato Sauce Recipe? The ingredients for Tomato Sauce are: 8 Cups Tomato Puree (sometimes labeled 'sauce', but really it is plain pureed tomatoes)1 Can Crushed Tomatoes 2 Cups Chopped Onions 4 Cloves Garlic, sliced .25 Cup Olive Oil 1 Link Italian Sausage, cut in half .5 T Crushed Red Pepper Flakes 1 T Salt (or Garlic Salt) 5 Basil Leafs, chopped (or 2 T dried basil) How Do I Make Tomato Sauce? Here is how you make Tomato Sauce: In large heavy-bottomed pot, add olive oil and sausage, stir over medium-high heat. After two minutes, add onions. When they begin to turn golden, add chopped garlic. Stir until fragrant. Add basil, crushed red pepper and stir for one minute. Add all of the tomato puree and crushed tomatoes to the pot. Turn heat down to medium-low/low heat. Cover loosely, so that lid allows some steam to escape. Let simmer for about an hour. Serve over pasta with shredded parmesan.*If you would like to add red wine, add two ounces with basil.*You can enrich the broth by adding more sausage in the first step, if you are not counting calories. Also, a beef bone or ox tail with the sausage would add lots of flavor. *Meatballs can be made on the side, then added to the sauce just before serving so that they do not break up during simmering.
