Brown sausage in large pan over medium-high heat and remove with slotted spoon, leaving drippings in the pan. Set sausage aside. Stir in butter until melted. Add flour and stir until smooth. Reduce heat to medium and cook until golden. Gradually add milk and cook until thickened. Add cayenne, syrup, salt, pepper and sausage. Reduce heat and simmer for 12-15 minutes.
