Here is how you make Cherry Almond Bars:

Preheat oven to 350. Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing after each addition. Add flour and salt and mix until incorporated. Stir in almonds until well-mixed. Spread 2/3 of dough evenly in a 9x13" baking dish. Freeze remaining dough. Bake for 35 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is light golden brown and springy. Remove from oven and spread preserves to edges but not touching the dish. Using the large wholes of a box grater, grate remaining dough evenly over top of bars. Return to oven for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
