Here is how you make Gram's Golden Date Cake:

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Spray pans and dust with flour or use wax paper in 2-8" layer pans. Sift together into mixing bowl flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add butter, vanilla and milk. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed. Add eggs and dates. Beat 2 minutes until well combined. Fold in 1/2 cup walnuts, if desired. Pour into pans.
