Dissolve baking soda in water and add to mixture along with blackberry preserves. Stir by hand until well blended.Beat eggs in one at a time.In a medium bowl, combine both flours, spices, and salt. Blend well.Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing by hand. Alternate mixing in dry ingredients and buttermilk. Stir until well combined.
