Grind together the raisins and orange, using pith and rind, and the nuts. Set aside for future use.Sift together the flour, salt, soda, and sugar into a large bowl.Add shortening and 3/4 cup of milk. Mix at low speed and beat for 2 minutes. Increase speed to medium speed and continue to beat for 2 minutes more. Add the remaining milk and 2 large eggs. Beat for 2 minutes more on low speed.Fold in the raisin/ orange/ nut mixture. and pour into a well greased and lightly floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 - 50 minutes.
