Here is how you make George's Favorite Candy Cane Cookies:

Preheat oven to 375. Ungreased cookie sheets. Crush peppermint and mix with sugar, set aside.Cream Butter and shortening. Add powdered sugar, egg, extracts. Stir in dry ingredients. Divide in half. Add 1/2 tsp red food coloring to half of dough. Roll 1 strip of red dough and 1 strip of white dough to about 4 inches. Braid together and form candy cane shape. Bake 8 to 10 min until slightly brown. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint and sugar.
