1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch

Here is how you make Betty/Mom's Homemade Pudding:

In a heavy duty pan (sprayed well with olive oil spray) bring 1 qt. milk slowly to boil. (Do not allow to boil.) Meanwhile beat 3 large eggs until very light color (using mixer). Add while beating: 1 cup sugar, then stir in 1/3 cup cornstarch and dash of salt. Beat in 1/3 cup cold milk. Take 1 cup or so of the HOT milk and add to the beating mixture. Then slowly add the beaten mixture to the hot milk, stirring and beating vigorously and bring to boiling point (do not boil as it will curdle).
