Homemade magic shell

Since coconut oil hardens at room temperature, combining it with bittersweet chocolate for a couple seconds in the microwave makes a good magic shell without preservatives, very little sugar, and without any of the other weird chemicals that are added to our food. For those of us who find life healthier with a lower carb count, this is a 6 gram/5.1 net carb option. It's not low calorie, but it is lower carb. Dark chocolate has antioxidants that may be beneficial, and it's *chocolate*. Benefits of coconut oil are all over the web. Whether or not nuking it in the microwave destroys those benefits, I'm not sure. It tastes good though.

How Do I Make Homemade magic shell?

Here is how you make Homemade magic shell:

Place square of chocolate in small cup. Top with coconut oil. Microwave on high for about a minute. Microwaves are all different, so check yours the first time so you get a sense of when to pull this out before the chocolate starts to burn.Stir with spoon and pour over ice cream. I use mine on my non-dairy vegan coconut ice cream (2 cans regular organic coconut milk, 1 organic banana, 1/4 cup organic maple syrup, 1/4 tsp xanthan gum, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp salt- all blended up and then put through the ice cream maker). If you like a chocolate swirl in your homemade ice cream, you can make a slightly larger batch of this and pour it into the center of the ice cream canister right at the end of the freezing process. Don't let it stick to the sides. Coconut oil does melt at a pretty low temperature though, so even if you do get some on the sides of your ice cream maker, a washcloth with a little hot water will take it right off.
