How Do I Make Toffee Bars?

Here is how you make Toffee Bars:

Cream together sugars and shortening; add vanilla, salt, and eggs. Mix well. Add flour and oatmeal. Again, mix well. Spoon batter (will be thick) into an 8 x 8" square dish/cake pan. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes (or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Sprinkle peanut butter chocolate chips on top and allow to melt enough to spread into an icing on top. Let set until cool. Chopped walnuts or pecans may be sprinkled on top of melted chips (after chips have been spread). However, the chopped nuts are not figured into the nutritional analysis and calorie count.
