Add 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp. minced garlic from a jar, or equivalent garlic powder. Add 1/2 cup bacon fat or other fat. Add 1 tbs. seasoned salt and black ground pepper to taste. Cover with water and simmer uncovered for at least a half hour or until beans and potatoes are soft.
