1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup whole wheat Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (1 ounce) packet dry au jus mix
3/4 cup water


How Do I Make Salisbury (Chicken) Steak?

Here is how you make Salisbury (Chicken) Steak:

Preheat oven to 400. In a large bowl, mix together the ground chicken, onion soup mix, bread crumbs, and milk using your hands. Shape into 16 patties. If meat mix is loose, refrigerate for a bit. Spray Pam on a large skillet over medium-high heat. Dredge the patties in flour just to coat, and quickly brown on both sides in the hot skillet. Place browned patties into a casserole. Saute onions and carrots in the same pan, then add soup, au jus mix and water. Pour over the meat. Bake for 30 minutes.Makes 8 2-patty servingsNote: I'm not sure how readily available ground chicken breast and whole wheat Italian bread crumbs are at the store. I grind up chicken breasts and freeze them in one pound portions to use as a substitute for ground beef and use the bread ends of my whole wheat bread and fresh herbs to make my seasoned bread crumbs.This can be served with egg noodles, cauliflower mash or mashed potatoes.The meat patty mix can be made the night before and refrigerated, saving time and making it easier to form the patties.Number of Servings: 8Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user LKNEELAND.
