This is a recipe I had for chili and loved that I lightened up because it originally called for pork sausage. I also substituted ground round for ground beef. This is "real" Texas Chili, meaning that there are no beans or noodles in it. You can adjust the amount of chili powder to suit your taste. Goes great with low fat sour cream and low fat cheese. What Are The Ingredients For Makeover Texas Chili Recipe?The ingredients for Makeover Texas Chili are: 1 lb ground round1 lb Jennie-O Breakfast Lover's Turkey Sausage, bulk (not links) 6 Tbsp Chili Powder 1 Tbsp ground cumin 2 tsp paprika 1 large onion, chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced 3/4 tsp oregano 1 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional) 2 Tbsp masa harina flour 1 8 oz can tomato sauce 2 cups water 1/2 cup warm water How Do I Make Makeover Texas Chili?Here is how you make Makeover Texas Chili: In a large cast iron skillet, brown meat and turkey until fully cooked. Drain well. Return meat to skilletStir in tomato sauce and 2 cups of water. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, chopped onion, minced garlic, oregano, and salt and simmer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, add cayenne pepper, if you wish. Mix masa harina and 1/2 cup warm water until smooth. Add to chili and stir well. Simmer for another 20 minutes until thickened. You can top this chili with low fat sour cream, low fat cheese, or any other low fat chili topping you like. You can also serve with tortilla chips.
