300 grams macaroni (long macaroni no 2)
3/4 lb extra-lean ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
2 bay leaves
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp flour
2 cups 1% milk
1 egg, beaten
2 tbsp corn starch
2 tbsp water


How Do I Make Greek Pastitsio?

Here is how you make Greek Pastitsio:

Preheat oven to 350F. Boil pasta according to package directions using 1/2 tsp salt in the water. Drain and return to pot. Add 1/2 grated cheese to pasta and toss.In a non-stick pan, brown the meat and onion, until onion is soft. Add tomato sauce, bay leaves, 1/2 tsp salt and pepper (if the mixture is too thick, add 1/4 cup water). Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.In a medium saucepan, heat butter and add flour, making a roux. Stirring constantly to avoid burning. Slowly add milk, stiriring as it thickens. In a small bowl beat egg, with cornstarch and 2 tbsp water. Add to hot milk and stir until sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in remaining cheese.Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with cooking spray. Add cooked macaroni, then spread meat mixture over macaroni (remove bay leaves).
