I also now make a broth with 2 cups of water and the lipton soup mix while I am browning the meat and when I remove the roast from the pan I use this broth to deglaze the pan of all the yummy brown bits and then add that liquid from the pan to the slow cooker with the meat and veggies. Add up to one cup of more water, until the roast is mostly covered with liquid. Cook for about 4.5 hours and then add your vegetables and continue cooking for the rest of the time, 2.5-3 hours. It can take a little less or a little longer. You can tell it is done when it falls apart. Yum!
